These Towns on The Pacific Coast Have The Best Main Streets

The Pacific Coast, or West Coast, in the United States, is a span of the country with the Pacific Ocean near its borders. The main states that make up the area are Washington, Nevada, Oregon, California, and Arizona. People flock to the Pacific Coast area for its sandy, expansive beaches, luxury living, and oceanic climate, but there are quite a few small towns to visit too that charm visitors with their vibrant atmosphere and lively main streets offering local art, cuisine, and entertainment.

Cambria, California

Cambria, California, boasts picture-perfect nature views and energetic festival experiences. It resides on California's central coast, and its downtown core holds art galleries and theaters. Check out Artifacts Gallery (775 Main Street) and take in intricate art pieces like Bovano's enamel copper art of botanicals and wildlife and Judy Larson's scratchboard animals. There is an art style in this gallery for everyone. Travel to the town during their annual Art & Wine Festival, where people can sip on wind blends from local vineyards and buy art pieces from local artists. To explore the great outdoors and rugged coast, visit Shamel Park. The 6-acre park offers recreation options, like swimming and pavilions, and it provides access to the beach and the Pacific Ocean.

Chelan, Washington

This beautiful town's name comes from the lake it resides on, Lake Chelan. It sits on the southeast portion of its shore. This small-town lake is actually deeper than the Great Lakes. With a depth of 1,486 feet, it is the third-deepest lake in the U.S. Beside this town are the vast Chelan Mountains, making it a great area for hiking. On top of these gorgeous geological views, Lake Chelan has a wine-centric downtown core with sculptures, music, and wine and beer tasting. Sip wine by the lake at Vin Du Lac. They have a wine club, a tasting room, and even outdoor yoga sessions.

Claremont, California

Claremont holds a variety of stores and restaurants on its main streets, but it also has a vast collection of trees. Fun fact: this township houses 23,000 trees, including American elms and eucalyptus. So, enjoy some greenery while exploring the town. The name of this town comes from the shore of the body of water it sits on: Gig Harbor. Throughout this area, local townships also boast harbors, with all of them eventually leading to bays that then connect to the Pacific Ocean. This coastal town once thrived from commercial fishing, and now tourists come for the ultimate recreation experience of sailing and kayaking. Mount Rainier wraps around the bay, making for an exciting hiking destination too. After exploring and working up an appetite, head to the town's main streets and grab a gourmet burger from The Gourmet Burger Shop. Joseph, Oregon

Joseph, Oregon, is a charming town with the Wallowa River running through its neighborhoods. Joseph also houses the eastern peak of the Wallowa Mountains, making for a perfect hiking adventure. The hike spans 2.3 miles, and people reach altitudes of 9,380 feet. Explore these geological beauties in more depth at Wallowa Lake State Park. Explore shops, galleries, and eateries within the town's main streets. Josephy Center for Arts and Culture is a gallery full of exhibits and an event center. View some hand paintings, as well as photography. Alternatively, enjoy local produce and agriculture at the Wallowa County Farmer's Market.

Mendocino, California

Right on the edge of the Pacific Ocean and full of wildflowers and bed and breakfasts, Mendocino holds charming main streets. Headlands Inn Bed & Breakfast is a tourist favorite for lodging, and it overlooks the ocean. They have in-room breakfasts, so you do not need to leave the bed, and the rooms are cozy, with some having wood-burning fireplaces. For breakfast, expect tea in fine China and French toast. Another gem on the town's main street is Mendocino Art Center. Paintings hang on the walls for people to admire, and they also offer classes in ceramics. Next, stop at Mendocino Headlands State Park. Take in secluded beaches, rocky coastlines, and trails. Sea arches and cliffs also exist in the area.

Silverton, Oregon

With Silver Creek flowing through the town and flowers blooming in a monumental garden, Silverton has a unique and colorful main street. At the north of the city resides Webb Lake. There are a handful of park areas, including Coolidge McClaine Park, Lincoln Street Park, and Abiqua Heights Park. The town also houses an attractive and luscious garden that nature fanatics dream of: The Oregon Garden. With pavement paths and pristine lawns, walk around and view the variety of flowers varying in species and color. It spans more than 80 acres and contains 20 gardens. Also, within the city, get a bite to eat at some top-rated restaurants like Akatsuki Sushi Bar and Fin & Fowl.

Ellensburg, Washington

Ellensburg's downtown bustles with energy, and stores, galleries, restaurants, and murals dot the streets.
