Edisto Island

Only an hour south of聽Charlestown聽lies the tranquil Edisto Island. This island perfectly encapsulates what a typical South Carolina town might have looked like nearly 100 years ago. Much of the dirt roads that snake around the island are lined with the iconic weeping trees draped in layers of聽Spanish聽moss.

Many of the old plantations on the island have been either transformed into luxurious hotels or museums about the area's past. The commercial district of Aiken is home to tons of great shopping and eating. Best known for its university,听Clemson聽is a great place to go if you want to participate in some of the most underrated nightlife in South Carolina. A very walkable town, the core of Clemson is filled with quality bars and restaurants that make for a great night out.聽Aside from partying it up with the local college kids, Clemson also has a lot in the way of natural beauty. Much of the town's buildings are old but well-maintained. Clemson is undoubtedly one of the most enchanting places in the spring and summer months.聽

Beaufort

One of the oldest settlements in South Carolina, the architecture of聽Beaufort聽still resembles its early聽colonial聽past. Founded in the early 18th century, many of the original buildings that laid the groundwork for Beaufort to grow into the town it is today still stand with pride.聽Beaufort is another waterside town. Swimming and boating are popular activities, along with fishing. Do not expect to see any loud parties, however. This small town has a well-earned reputation for being quiet and easygoing.
