Nebraska City

Nebraska City's downtown is still redolent of the 19th century, with red-brick streets lined with old buildings that once sheltered riverboat traders. Some of these buildings still have their original facades, and they are home to boutiques, coffee shops, and antique stores today. The Kregel Windmill Factory Museum shows a glimpse of an early 20th-century windmill factory. Also, Kimmel Orchard & Vineyard, just outside downtown, brings the town's farming background up to date with fruit picking and freshly squeezed cider.

Red Cloud

Minden

Built with a watchful eye, downtown Minden is a beautifully preserved example of early 20th-century town design. The hub of the town is its courthouse square, aglow each winter during the annual Christmas Pageant, a tradition that has given Minden the reputation of "Nebraska’s Christmas City." Beyond Christmas decorations, there are old brick buildings housing shops, a bakery, and restaurants, and the Minden Opera House brings plays and concerts to the heart of town year after year.

A step away from the main district, the Harold Warp Pioneer Village features over 20 restored buildings and thousands of artifacts, offering a tour of American ingenuity. Fort Kearny State Historical Park is nearby, preserving the location of a key military post on the Oregon Trail. Here, you can tour reconstructed buildings and walk Platte River trails.

Chadron

A well-preserved collection of buildings from the early 20th and 19th centuries gives downtown Chadron its charming character.
