There is much more to Kentucky than horse races and fried chicken. Although both are good things to be known for, Kentucky has much to offer in terms of new and exciting spots for summer vacations.聽

Many of these hidden gems can be found in the small towns scattered across the state. If you are tired of the typical day trips to the beach or big city then perhaps it's time you considered some of these locations instead.聽聽

Paducah

A cultural hub of Kentucky, Paducah has long been home to dozens of notable artists from all walks of life and professions. Musicians, painters, sculpture, poets, and many more have all called Paducah home at one time or another.聽Today Paducah is still home to a robust and thriving art scene. Whether you are into museums or great live music, there is something here for everyone. If you are wanting to really imbed yourself in the local scene make sure to stop by the town's moonshine distillery and take a sample for yourself.聽

Bardstown

The self-proclaimed bourbon capital of the 海角社区, Bardstown is home to some of the most well-respected and renowned bourbon distilleries around. There are nearly a dozen separate distilleries but the Heaven Hill is arguably the most popular.聽

If you are not looking for a trip centered around alcohol don't fret, there is still plenty to see and do. Bardstown played a surprisingly significant role in the American Civil War and there are two distinct museums that are dedicated to this part of the town's rich history. Both the Women鈥檚 Civil War Museum and the Old Bardstown Village Civil War Museum are worth a visit.聽

Maysville

The downtown commercial district of Maysville is one of the most serene and beautiful in the entire state. Much of this area's buildings are made entirely of bright red bricks and black shingled roofs. The aesthetic is hard to match no matter where you go in the 海角社区. Countless top-tier restaurants are teeming throughout the town as well. Grabbing a bit to eat here will most likely expose you to something you have never tasted before.

The history of Maysville is noteworthy too. This town played a critical role in the relative success of the Underground Railway which was responsible for smuggling escaped slaves into the northern United States and Canada. Sitting along the shores of the Cumberland River, Grand Rivers is one of the most scenic and tranquil places in Kentucky. This town has enthusiastically embraced its culture of being a waterfront town and visitors will be exposed to all the bells and whistles that come with that kind of lifestyle.聽

Outdoor recreation is unsurprisingly one of the pulls for Grand Rivers. Being right next to the water allows visitors to take part in all manner of activities. Boating, swimming, and fishing are all commonplace here. It is the perfect place to cool down during the hot summer months and spend the weekend out with the family.聽

Harrodsburg

Harrodsburg is one of Kentucky's oldest towns. First founded at the beginning of the 18th century, this town has done a remarkable job of retaining its old-time feel and atmosphere. Take a stroll down the main strip in the center of town will feel as though you have stepped out of a time machine. Aside from all the cars parked on the road of course.聽

The Old Fort Harrod State Park and its recreated 1774 fort are some of the notable attractions in Harrodsburg aside from its charming antiquated buildings.
