St. Pete Beach, Florida
St. Pete Beach is a small coastal city and a popular seaside tourist destination that is situated in Pinellas County in the US State of Florida. The city was formed from the towns of St. Petersburg Beach, Belle Vista, Pass-a-Grille, and the unincorporated Pinellas County. On March 9, 1994, the initial name of the St. Petersburg Beach City was shortened to St. Pete Beach - the city鈥檚 current official name. This change in the city鈥檚 name was done to distinguish it from the neighboring city of St. Petersburg.
Geography Of St. Pete Beach
St. Pete Beach occupies a major portion of Long Key, a barrier island that is located at the east-central margin of the Gulf of Mexico. Situated approximately 32km to the south of Clearwater Beach, St. Pete Beach covers a total area of 51.7 sq. km, of which 46 sq. km is occupied by water and 5.7 sq. km is occupied by land. Three bridges connect St. Pete Beach with the South Pasadena City, the Treasure Island City, and the Bayway Isles neighborhood area of the city of St. Petersburg.
Demography
As per the 2010 census, about 9,346 people live in St. Pete Beach city. The city鈥檚 population has decreased since the 2000 census, which showed that St. Pete Beach City was home to 9,929 people. The city has a population density of 1,740.89 inhabitants per sq. km. About 90.2% of the city鈥檚 population is considered white, of whom most are non-Hispanic. The Hispanic people make up 4.7% of the city鈥檚 population, followed by Asians that make up 3.3%, and African Americans about 0.6% of the city鈥檚 population. The St. Pete Beach City is governed by a Mayor-Council government system.
Visiting St. Pete Beach
Situated at the heart of St. Pete Beach city is the downtown shopping district of Corey Avenue that features many gift shops, boutiques, clothing stores, jewelry galleries, bars, and restaurants. Throughout the year, several fun events such as art and craft festivals, parades, etc. are organized by the Corey Avenue Business Association. Situated at the southern extremity of St. Pete Beach are the historic Pass-a-Grille district and the well-known historic Don CeSar Resort. St. Pete Beach offers many water sport activities for its visitors like stand-up paddleboarding, parasailing, and windsurfing.
