Located in Vermont's Chittenden County, South Burlington is surrounded by scenic nature, with the mountains and Lake Champlain only a short drive away. The area comprises several suburban communities and a commercial hub that is being transformed into a downtown. The University Mall, the state's听biggest mall, is also located there. The city features a public park and beach called "Red Rocks" that borders Lake Champlain. South Burlington also includes a sizable section of Lake Champlain, located west of Burlington, and stretches to the border with听New York. The city covers 29.6 square miles (76.6 km2), of which 16.5 square miles (42.7 km2) is land and 13.1 square miles (33.9 km2) is water, according to the听US Census Bureau.

Brief History Of South Burlington听
On June 7, 1763,听New Hampshire听initially allocated the region of South Burlington as a portion of Burlington township. Around 1785, the town of Burlington was established. The unincorporated community of Burlington was granted city status in 1865. The remaining part of the town was named South Burlington. Later, in 1971, the area of South Burlington was also constituted as a city. Today, South Burlington is the 2213rd听largest city听in the听United States听and the second largest city in Vermont, with a 2020 population of 20,770.听听
