Greensboro, Vermont

Greensboro is a small town situated in southern Orleans County, in the聽鲍厂听state of聽Vermont. The town is characterized by farms, forests, open land, and lakes, and it hosts many communities such as Campbells Corners, Gebbie Corner, Greensboro Four Corners, Greensboro Bend, and Burlington Point. Impressively, the central village of Greensboro and Greensboro Bend have been recognized as census-designated places.

Greensboro is the southernmost town situated in Vermont's Orleans County, covering a total area of 39.4 square miles, of which 37.8 square miles are occupied by land, and 1.6 square miles are covered by water. Greensboro is surrounded by many local small towns like Gebbie Corner, Campbells Corner, East Craftsbury, and Tolman. Moreover, the town is only 87 miles away from major cities in聽颁补苍补诲补听濒颈办别听惭辞苍迟谤别补濒听and Laval. The town is home to Caspian Lake and the majority of Eligo Pond, which is also referred to as Lake Eligo.

The climate in Greensboro is聽humid continental, with warm and muggy summers and very cold, snowy winters, with cloudy skies throughout the year. Moreover, the temperature usually varies between -1 掳C and 31 掳C and is rarely below -8 掳C or above 34 掳C. For tourists, the best time to visit Greensboro for warm-weather activities is between May and June and between August and October.

Brief History Of Greensboro

Greensboro's history started with the establishment of the Bayley-Hazen military road, which was requested by聽George Washington聽in 1776 for an expected invasion of Canada. By 1779, the road had stretched to Greensboro and continued through to聽惭辞苍迟驳辞尘别谤测听before abandoning the project. Blockhouses, like the one at Greensboro, were created with the aim of protection. Due to the Indian raids on Peacham in 1781, four scouts were sent to bloke the blockhouse around the southwest corner of Caspian Lake. The scouts were stopped by Indians, who murdered two of the scouts and took the other two to聽Quebec聽to be later traded against some Indian prisoners in Vermont. Later on, in 1781, Greensboro was incorporated as a town that was named after Timothy Green, who was one of the initial charter recipients and an original landowner within the charter. Moreover, the town contributed to the聽Civil War聽by sending many local soldiers to battles, where eight prisoners of war originated from Greensboro.

As per the latest US Census, the population of the town of Greensboro is estimated to be around 811 residents only. Where 92.80% of Greensboro residents were born in the United States, and 24.80% had been born in Vermont. However, 7.20% of residents are not US citizens, with the largest percentage of them originating from聽Oceania.

The economy in Greensboro relies on many services that are the main contributors to its structure. With wholesale and retail rade being the most dominant businesses in the town, educational services and manufacturing come next to support the market. Caspian Lake Beach.

Caspian lake is a beautiful glacial freshwater lake hidden between Route 14 and 16, in Greensboro, and stretching over 789-acres. It is considered to be one of the cleanest of the Vermont lakes, making it a popular spot for snorkeling and swimming, with a maximum depth of 142 feet. The lake featured a public beach , as well as cottages that are privately owned.

Long Pond Natural Area.

The Long Pond Natural Area covers 767 acres, with 99-acre of them consist of undeveloped pond, offering stunning views of the northern white cedar swamp that is located at the south edge of the pond.
