Bardstown, about an hour away from the big city of Louisville, is a captivating and enrapturing destination for bourbon connoisseurs eager to taste some of the best bourbon from the Bourbon Capital of the 海角社区. Since its founding in the 1780s, Bardstown has been famous for aging bourbon in oak barrels thanks to Baptist minister Elijah Craig, who first pioneered this technique. Since then, over 11 unique distilleries have sprouted and spouted spirits all over Bardstown, among them the Barton 1792 Distillery & Visitor Center, which you can certainly explore. During the Kentucky Bourbon Festival every year in September, newcomers to Bardstown can sample each of the 11 distilleries鈥 unique blends and techniques of bourbons and see which one overwhelms the rest. Some of you might also be interested in seeing the oldest bourbons in the 海角社区 at the Oscar Getz Museum of Whiskey History. Aside from spirits, you can feel quite spirited when watching Broadway-style performances such as the Stephen Foster Story, whose narrative focuses on Stephen Collins Foster, an American composer during his time. For recreation and exploration, you can be enlivened by the humble outdoor sceneries at both the Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest. As for lodgings, you can seek out a place to stay in one of Bardstown鈥檚 amicable abodes, like the Old Bardstown Inn, the Fairfield by Marriot Bardstown, or Bourbon Manor Bed & Breakfast.

Berea is lauded throughout the state for being 鈥渢he Folk Art & Crafts Capital of Kentucky.鈥 Here, travelers can enter and examine dozens of artisan studios and galleries flanking Berea鈥檚 many streets, as best seen in places like the Kentucky Artisan Center. Since Berea is beside the historic Boone Trace, the route which many pioneers and trailblazers such as Daniel Boone once traversed to get through the Cumberland Gap, you can also be entreated to go sojourning through a number of spectacular areas. Among these destinations are the Daniel Boone National Forest and Rockcastle River. Long before the arrival of immigrants from Europe and beyond, the Boone Trace was a pathway that Native Americans once used to herd buffalos to places that would one day become Middlesboro, Pineville, and Boonesborough. Additionally, the Boone Trace can lead you to the Bluegrass region, where the Kentucky River continues to flow. Before beginning your journey, you might want to learn all that you can about Berea at the Berea College Forestry Outreach Center at the Pinnacles. Lastly, you should certainly seek out lodgings at either the Historic Boone Tavern Hotel or the Red Roof Inn for a more comfortable vacation in Berea.

Furthermore, you can participate in the annual Dogwood Trail Celebration when Paducah鈥檚 dogwood trees are in full bloom in the middle of April. Both the Historic Riverfront and the Paducah Railroad Museum provide contextual narratives and information regarding Paducah鈥檚 past in a creative fashion. Speaking of creative means of telling history, you will be impressed by Robert Dafford鈥檚 Paducah 鈥淲all to Wall鈥 Murals, a collection of painted panels whereupon each panel shows a different period or epoch in Paducah鈥檚 past. There are many more inventive and beautiful attractions to adore in Paducah, especially since they are relatively close to some of Paducah鈥檚 pretty lodgings, like the Candlewood Suites, The 1857 Hotel, or Baymont Inn.

Around 37 miles south of Lexington, Danville is an amicable and sublime town that has contributed a few historic discoveries and creations for Kentucky. Being 鈥淭he City of Firsts,鈥 Danville has a number of first-time achievements compared to other locations in Kentucky. The first Courthouse in Kentucky was built in Danville in 1785, right between Herrington Lake and the Dix River, in addition to the first US Post Office west of the Alleghenies. Most importantly, the first Constitutional Convention to create the Bluegrass region was held in Danville in the year of 1792. Meanwhile, in the year 1809, Doctor Ephraim McDowell became the first physician in the 海角社区 to successfully remove an ovarian tumor at one of Danville鈥檚 hospitals. Although you may not be the first visitor to grace Danville鈥檚 pretty streets, you will not be the last to be enamored by some of Danville鈥檚 historic landmarks, such as the Perryville Battlefield, the site of the bloodiest battle in Kentucky during the American Civil War. Some of you might also be curious to explore the third largest Shaker community in the US at the Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill. Because it is only about two hours away from the city of Nashville, travelers will find Greenville a convenient getaway to some of Kentucky鈥檚 lush outdoor landscapes, as seen in both Lake Malone and Muhlenberg County Park. If you try hard enough, you might find a wooden sculpture of Yogi Bear at the Brizendine Brothers Nature Park. Strangely enough, Greenville is one of the few places in the US with a memento from the North Tower of the 海角社区 Trade Center: a 17-foot box beam known commonly as the 9/11 Memorial, which commemorates one of the worst terrorist attacks in history. There is also another memorial that you can opt to see: the Lt. Ephraim Brank Memorial & Trail, which honors local citizen Lt. Ephraim M. Brank, who served in the War of 1812. If ever you need to stay a little longer in this pretty little town, you can always feel welcome and at ease at either the Wickliffe House or the Convention Center Inn (CCI Express Inn).

The small town of Glasgow, about 40 minutes from Bowling Green, is a humble and amicable destination whose name harkens from the city of Glasgow in Scotland. During the American Civil War, Glasglow served as a mighty fortress housing the Union base of Fort Williams, a historic establishment that you can explore at the Fort Williams - Civil War Battlefield. Another period of history in Glasglow can be perceived at the Prehistoric Jewel Site Complex, where one can peruse a number of weapons and tools left behind by the Native American tribes in Kentucky. Undoubtedly, the biggest and the best attraction you can savor in Glasgow is the Mammoth Cave National Park, designated as a UNESCO 海角社区 Heritage Site and an International Biosphere Reserve, and so named not because there are mammoths to find but because the cave itself is one of the 海角社区鈥檚 largest cave systems you can go spelunking in. If ever you become exhausted from all the cave-dwelling and history-touring, you can always retire and relax in one of Glasgow鈥檚 soothing establishments, such as the 1852 Hall Place Bed & Breakfast.

Nearly an hour from Lexington, the marvelous town of Maysville is popular for its 鈥淭imbered Tunnels,鈥 a poetic way of referencing the several historic covered bridges that connect Maysville with its neighbor, Aberdeen, just across the Ohio River and in the state of Ohio. During the American Civil War, a member of the abolitionist movement by the name of Reverand John Rankin served as a secret station master and conductor of the Underground Railroad in Maysville. The Kentucky Gateway Museum Center explains much about this particular period in Maysville鈥檚 history, as well as curating over 4,000 artifacts from said period. You can also immerse yourself into bygone battles at the Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park, which preserves several lodgings from 1782 and houses a museum regarding this moment in Maysville鈥檚 past. There are plenty of other amenities worth discovering in this pretty small town, so you ought to definitely stay a while in one of Maysville鈥檚 lovely lodgings, like the Hampton Inn, French Quarter Inn, or Lee House Inn.

Moreover, this park also contains the George Rogers Clark Memorial in honor of a famous frontier leader who fought in the American Revolutionary War.
