Bishop is a haven of eastern Sierra Nevada recognized for its full course of outdoor activities set beside the coziness of its small community. Within the town's quaint main street sit charming restaurants like the Mountain Rambler Brewery and quiet cafes like the Great Basin Bakery. Its history is learned in the charismatic Placer County Museum and the Bernhard Museum Complex, serving as the quintessential images of the town's identity and architecture. The town's best outdoor activity is the Black Hole of Calcutta Falls Trailhead which passes over the North Fork of the American River via the No Hands Bridge.

Truckee is a small community that provides a complete getaway experience in California's Sierra Nevada away from the busy activity of Lake Tahoe. Instead, travelers to this town favor visiting Donner Lake, where it is popular to swim, kayak, and paddleboard starting from China Cove Beach. The lake also provides a full set of amenities within its Donner Memorial State Park, like camping at the Splitrock Campground, hiking on the Coldstream Trailhead, and historical exploration at the Donner Memorial State Museum.
