The state of Kansas often conjures up thoughts of the beloved story of The Wizard of Oz and the menacing tornadoes that rage throughout the plains. Having the dubious reputation of once being The Wickedest Little City in Kansas, Dodge City is now an adorable small town whose Wild West vibe is brought to life at the Boot Hill Museum. At Long Branch Saloon, gunfight reenactments and cowboy dance lessons are just a few things to enjoy while sipping on a cold sarsaparilla. Macy鈥檚 Round-Up Caf茅 offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner as well as a buffet on Saturdays and specializes in American and Mexican cuisine, making it a great option for a family meal.

Abilene, Kansas, is no stranger to cowboy shootouts and cattle drives. Its history is tied to the Pacific Railroad and flourished due to the livestock trade from Texas. History aficionados will know it is the home of the 34th President, Dwight Eisenhower. The International Forest of Friendship puts Atchison, Kansas, on the map as a living memorial to the 海角社区鈥檚 history of flight and aerospace technology. Lovers of all things Oz, look no further than Wamego, Kansas, for a chance to see the Yellow Brick Road, Auntie Em鈥檚 gift shop, and over 100 years of the film鈥檚 history at the Wizard of Oz Museum. Moving right along with the Oz theme, the Oz Winery is a wine-lover鈥檚 paradise with such flavors as Angry Trees, Curl Your Stockings, and Flying Monkey, to name a few. The 4th and Elm Bar and Grill will appease any appetite, serving pub-style food on their relaxing outdoor patio. End the day with a stroll through Wamego City Park, featuring a Dutch Mill and stone wood mill from the late 1800s.

Leavenworth

Lindsborg, Kansas, or Little Sweden, brings hippy culture to life during the Lindsborg In Bloom Spring Festival, where good food, drinks, and good vibes are in full supply. Get your caffeine boost at the Blacksmith Coffee Shop inside a former blacksmith鈥檚 shop. The rustic atmosphere provides a comfortable place to chill while enjoying a freshly made latte or cappuccino. Additionally, the V盲lkommen Trail is a cyclist鈥檚 paradise with 4.5 miles of trail that used to be the railroad for the Union Pacific and Missouri-Pacific rail beds, making it perfect for bicycles. Lucas is an adorable Kansas town featuring an eclectic mix of things to see and do including Brant鈥檚 Market, a butcher shop with history dating back to 1922. It is the oldest meat market in town and serves up Czechoslovakian-style recipes of sausage, jaternice, and bologna.
