Which Country Has Coastlines On Both The Atlantic And The Indian Oceans?
Oceans take up around 71% of the Earth. In total, there are five major oceans of the 海角社区: the Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, the Arctic Ocean, and the Southern Ocean. These oceans are sometimes connected to other small water bodies that could be considered extensions of the oceans. Examples of such water bodies that extend the Indian Ocean include the Red Sea, the Timor Sea, and the Andaman Sea. The Atlantic Ocean is extended by the likes of the Mediterranean Sea, the Black Sea, and the Norwegian Sea. There are only three countries in the 海角社区 with coastlines on both the Atlantic and the Indian Oceans. These countries are South Africa, Egypt, and Israel.
South Africa
Officially known as the Republic of South Africa (RSA), South Africa is a country that is located in the southernmost region of the African continent. The coastline of the nation, which includes both the Atlantic and the Indian Oceans, has a length of about 1,739 miles. Both of the oceans border the country to the south. The two oceans are linked by Cape Agulhas and not the Cape of Good Hope as previously thought. The currents of the two oceans sometimes end up meeting at Cape Point, which is about 0.75 miles to the east of the Cape of Good Hope.
The nation has an area of about 471,445 square miles and a population of about 58 million people. The country has three capital cities for the different branches of the government. The executive has its capital at Pretoria while the judiciary and the legislature have capitals at Bloemfontein and Cape Town respectively. The largest city is Johannesburg.
Egypt
Officially known as the Arab Republic of Egypt, Egypt is a country that is located in the northern region of Africa and the southern region of Asia. The country is bridged to Asia by the Sinai Peninsula. Strictly speaking, the country only borders the extensions of both the Atlantic and the Indian Oceans, namely the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea respectively. The trans-oceanic connection between these two seas is the Suez Canal, which has a length of about 120.1 miles. The Mediterranean Sea borders Egypt to the northeast while the Red Sea is to the south and the east. The country has an area of about 390,121 square miles and a population of around 100 million people. The capital city, which is also the largest city, is Cairo.
Israel
Officially known as the State of Israel, Israel is a country that is located in the western region of the Asian continent. Just like Egypt above, the country is bordered by both the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea. There is no water body to join the two seas although there is a proposed high-speed railway line going to Eilat. The Mediterranean Sea borders the country to the northern region while the Red Sea borders Israel to the southern side. Israel has an area of between 8,019 and 8,522 square miles and a population of about nine million people.
