History

While its roots can be traced back to the United States National Bank of Portland which was founded in 1891, Bancorp was officially established in 1968. At that time the company was led by president and CEO LeRoy B. Staver. Since that time, the bank holding company has acquired an array of American financial institutions including Heritage Bank, Peoples Bancorp, California Bancshares, and Northwestern Commercial Bank. In 1997, the First Bank System bought U.S. Bancorp of Oregon for a sum of $9 million in stock. The institution was then officially renamed U.S. Bancorp with its headquarters established in its existing offices in Minneapolis.
