Massachusetts has long been one of the top states in terms of being home to a myriad of educational institutes of higher learning. The state is home to Roxbury Latin School which has the distinction of being the oldest school in continuous operation since it was established in 1645. Massachusetts is also home to the oldest public elementary, high school, and boarding schools as well as the oldest college and women's' college in the nation. The number of higher learning institutions located in Massachusetts totals 121.聽
