The Largest Telecom Providers in the United States
A wireless phone connection is provided by a good number of companies to the people of United States of America. The top five companies (Verizon Wireless, AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile US, Sprint Corporation, and U.S. Cellular) have made the incorporation of 4G LTE wireless communication a standard. However, only a select types of devices that matched well with the Sprint and Verizon networks work. The number of subscription is based on the number of active SIM cards.
The top three highest wireless service providers in the United States
Verizon
Verizon wireless is a telecommunication company based in the United States. As by April 2017, it was ranked the largest company in the USA with the highest number of subscribers (146 million). It was set up in the year 2000 as one of the Bell Atlantic firms but later the ownership was transferred to Vodafone, a British telecommunications company, in 2014. The company provides a 98% coverage of 4G LTE network to the population of United States. It provides wireless services to its customers through various devices that are compatible to its operating system. It is estimated that its LTE covers approximately 2.7 million customers in 169 counties in a program called Rural America Program. In the year 2015, the company communicated that it was building up on the latest network in the form of a fifth generation (5G).
AT&T
AT&T Mobility serves at least 134 million people in US, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. It is ranked the second largest wireless provider after Verizon Wireless. The company was previously co-owned by BellSouth and SBC Communications between 2000 and 2007. However, the AT&T fully resumed the ownership of the Cingular company in the year 2006 and renamed it AT&T Wireless in January 2007. On March 20, 2011, AT&T Mobility declared its wish to buy T-Mobile USA at $39 billion. The US government gave the go-ahead but later declined after objection from U.S Department of Justice and other wireless service providers on the thought that it could diminish cellular network competition in the market. If the deal could have materialized, the company would have inherited at least 130 million users.
T-Mobile
T-Mobile US is ranked as the third largest wireless provider with a larger number of shares owned by Deutsche Telekom, a Germany telecommunications company. It had 72.6 subscribers as by the first quarter of the year 2017 and ranked first by Nielsen in Customer Service Satisfaction. The company offers wireless data and voice services in Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgins Islands, and the United States. It makes a total of $37 billion revenues every year. To make sure that there will be compatibility with phones and other networks, T-Mobile US gradually rolled out the 4G network from 2003 in specific places and is currently expanding to other areas.
Future projection
After a good number of acquisitions and merging, T-Mobile is anticipated to strengthen its competitiveness against the Verizon Wireless and AT&T Mobility companies. If the T-Mobile becomes a legitimized competitor, then the pressure will ease on the market activities of the leading companies.
