The Tallest Buildings In Edmonton
Located on the North Saskatchewan River, Edmonton is the capital of the Canadian province of Alberta. It is home to 932,546 individuals making it the second-most populous city in Alberta. The city has 22 buildings that are over 100 m in height. The first true skyscraper of the city was the CN Tower (Edmonton) which was built in 1966. For five years since its construction, the CN Tower stood as the tallest building in Western Canada. Edmonton experienced its real construction boom in the 1970s during the oil shocks. 10 of the 20 tallest buildings of the city were built during this time. However, the construction of skyscrapers in the city experienced a lag between the mid-1980s and the early 2000s. Low oil prices triggered this downfall. As of late 2014, Edmonton had 249 high-rise buildings and several under construction or approved for construction.
