A majority of tourists who travel to Canada are Americans. In 2017, 14.3 million Americans traveled to Canada as tourists. The expansion of air travel between the two countries saw a significant rise in the number of tourists who travelled by air. 2017 saw the number of air travel break a record high for the third year in a row. Arrivals by busses, personal vehicles, trains and other non-air transport also increased by 9.9%. In total, 55.7% of American traveled to Canada by air. States closer to Canada accounted for the majority of those who traveled by land. New York, Washington, and Michigan jointly accounted for 44.5%.
