Tokyo, the capital city of Japan, will become the first Asian city to host the Olympic Games twice as it will be the location of the 2020 Summer Olympics taking place July 23rd to August 8th, 2021. The 2020 Olympics will feature more sports than the 2016 Olympics. Some of the games that will debut in the 2020 Olympics include skateboarding, surfing, sport climbing, and karate. The Games will feature over 11,000 athletes from 206 countries. Some of the most hopeful nations for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games include:

The United States

The United States has participated in all Olympic Games since 1896 except the 1980 Olympics when the country boycotted the tournament. The US is the most prosperous nation in the modern Olympics history, having won 2,523 medals. The US sent 555 athletes for 33 sporting events in the 2016 Games and won the most medals (121 medals). The American athletes have dominated numerous competitions in the Olympic Games, like swimming and basketball, for decades. The US plans to bring over 600 athletes to the 2020 Olympics to compete in over 25 sports.

Great Britain

Other than being the second in the 2016 Olympic Games medals table, the United Kingdom (code GBR in the Olympics) is one of the most successful nations in the history of the Olympic Games. The UK has sent athletes to every Summer Olympic Games, including the 1984 and 1980 events, which were boycotted by several nations. The UK is the only country that has won a gold medal in all Summer Olympics, and it is ranked third globally, having won 851 medals. Great Britain sent 366 athletes to the 2016 Games, who participated in 25 sports and managed to win 67 medals. The UK won the second-most medals in the 2016 Games right behind the US. Great Britain plans to send over 300 athletes to the 2020 Games to participate in over 25 sports.聽聽聽聽

Even though China is ranked seventh having won 608 medals in all the Summer Olympic Games it has participated in, it is possibly the most competitive nation in the Olympic Games. China has been improving since the 1988 Games when they ranked eleventh with only 28 medals. China finished third in the 2016 Games right behind Great Britain with 70 medals. China has a unique sports program that allows them to select talented youth all over the country and train them for future competitions. The program has helped them produce competitive athletes who have managed to perform well in the Olympic Games. China sent 416 athletes to the 2016 Games to participate in 26 sports. The athletes managed to win 26 gold medals and dominated in several competitions, including diving and table tennis. After a disappointing third-place finish in 2016, the Chinese team is hoping to finish on top, even though they will face a stiff challenge from the US and the host nation.

Japan finished sixth in the 2016 Summer Games with 41 medals right below Russia and Germany. Japan is the current 海角社区 Karate Champion and has won the most medals in all 海角社区 Karate Championships tournaments. Therefore, the introduction of this sport in the 2020 Olympics is expected to earn them more medals.
