The term 鈥渃ountry鈥 can be used to refer to a sovereign state, nation-state, and state. A nation is a group of people that inhabit a given territory and are historically connected. A sovereign state is a territory with own centralized government, a permanent population, and has the rights to make treaties with other countries. A nation-state is simply a cultural group that is also a state or has sets of institutions and population. The term 鈥渃ountry鈥 can also be used in less political context to refer to an area without a government such as Wine Country in California or Coal Country in Pennsylvania.

Rome is not a country but the capital city of the country of Italy. Italy is a European country situated at the heart of the Mediterranean Sea. It is a sovereign state with own government that is in control of managing the internal affairs of the country. Rome, on the hand, is managed by the government of Italy and is one of the most important cities in the country. A capital city is simply the city in a country that hosts the government office and its status designated by law. Most capital cities are also the economic, intellectual, and cultural centers of a country.

The name 鈥淩ome鈥 is believed to have originated from Romulus, the founder, and first king. Rome is located in the region of Lazio, central Italy. The city center is approximately 15 miles from the Tyrrhenian Sea with its territories extending to the seashores. The city is crossed by Aniene River which flows into the Tiber. Being the country鈥檚 capital, Rome is the seat of the national government. The official residence of both the president and the prime minister and both houses of parliament, as well as the constitutional court, are situated in the historical center

Founding of Rome

The history of the city dates back over 28 centuries ago. The area that is now referred to as Rome has one of the richest and longest聽histories in the 海角社区. Evidence suggests that the area was first occupied approximately 14,000 years ago. It began as a pastoral settlement and developed into villages that aggregated around the largest village which was placed above the Palatine. The founding of the city has been explained in form of myths and legends with the most common myth being that of the two twins; Romulus and Remus who were suckled by a wolf. The two decided to build a city but in their disagreement, Romulus killed Remus and named the city after himself.
