Brooklyn is a borough of New York City that was named after Breukelen, a Dutch Village. It is New York City鈥檚 most populated borough with approximately 2.6 million residents. Since 2010, the estimated population of Brooklyn has increased by 5.8%. Its population accounts for about 31% of the New York City鈥檚 8.6 million residents. Major Populated Neighborhoods of Brooklyn

Bedford-Stuyvesant

Bedford-Stuyvesant is a neighborhood in the northeastern portion of Brooklyn. It forms part of the Brooklyn Community Board 3. Bedford-Stuyvesant is a major center for African Americans making up 70.1% of the population. It is the most populated Brooklyn neighborhood with a population of 157,530 residents. The sprawling neighborhood is famous for its African-American heritage.

Bensonhurst

Bensonhurst is a multiethnic neighborhood located on the southwestern part of Brooklyn. It is popularly known as 鈥淟ittle Italy鈥 due to a large number of Italian-American population. It also has the highest number of residents born in China of any Brooklyn neighborhood. According to the 2010 census, Bensonhurst is the second most populated Brooklyn neighborhood, with 151,705 residents. With an area of approximately 1,890 acres, the neighborhood has a population density of 48,400 inhabitants per square miles.

Bushwick

Bushwick is a neighborhood in northern Brooklyn comprising mainly of the working class. The town was first founded during the Dutch occupation of the Americas in the 17th century and hosted the Germanic immigrants in the 19th century. As of the 2010 census, Bushwick has a population of approximately 129,239 residents. The majority of the residents are Latino Americans from Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.

Sunset Park

Sunset Park is a neighborhood in the southwestern part of Brooklyn. It was named following the founding of 24.5 acres of Public Park in the 1890s. There are approximately 126,000 people living in Sunset Park. The population is mainly composed of Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, and Hispanics. A large number of Chinese and Indians also reside in Sunset Park, making it one of the fastest growing Chinatowns in Brooklyn.

Borough Park

Borough Park neighborhood is located in the southwestern portion of Brooklyn. It is home to one of the largest Orthodox Jewish community outside Israel. Based on 2010 census, Borough Park has a population of 106,357 residents, a 5.2% increase from the 2000 census count. The neighborhood has a population density of 55,000 people per square mile. The majority of the residents are White (77%) while Asians account for 11.7% of the population.

There are over 600,000 Jewish Americans living throughout the Brooklyn, with the majority concentrated in Borough Park. Chinese Americans mainly reside in Bensonhurst and Sunset Park while African Americans are spread throughout the borough. The neighborhoods are also homes to a large growing population of same-sex couples.
