Below is a list of 4 itinerary options, depending on the amount of time each traveler has.

4. 2 months - Road trip from Los Angeles to Miami

The roads of the wild, wild west.

The automobile has played one of the biggest roles in shaping the current American lifestyle and travelers can take part in its car culture by taking a road trip from Los Angeles, California to Miami, Florida.

This 2,733-mile journey has a number of interesting attractions along the way and is definitely worth spending 2 months exploring in order to take it all in. Visitors should rent a car in Los Angeles and spend the first week here. Some great places to check out are: the beaches and pier of Santa Monica, the unique personalities and street art along Venice Beach, the Walk of Fame in Hollywood, the Grand Central Market, Chinatown, the Getty Center museum, Malibu, and Mulholland Drive through the Santa Monica Mountains.

From LA, drive the 4 hours to Las Vegas, Nevada. Here, visitors can spend a couple days exploring the Strip with its casinos and luxurious hotels. This city is famous for its nightlife and gambling. The best part is, it is only a 4 hour drive to the Grand Canyon, one of the largest canyons in the º£½ÇÉçÇø. About 4 days can be spent here, camping, whitewater rafting, hiking, and viewing the night sky.

From the Grand Canyon, roadtrippers should head south of Flagstaff, Arizona to Historic Route 66, the most famous and unique highway in the country. Today, some parts of this highway overlap with the interstate system. This highway takes travelers through Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas and is worth spending a couple of weeks exploring. In Flagstaff, the itinerary includes: the historic downtown district, The Spur Motel, and the Dean Eldredge Museum. Heading east, some other Arizona stops along the way are the: Canyon Diablo ghost town, Apache Death Cave, the Jack Rabbit Trading Post, the 1912 Meteor site, and the Petrified Forest National Park.

These cities offer the chance to check out an independent music festival, an NBA basketball game, Spanish missions, and to escape the heat tubing down one of the rivers. It takes about 8 hours to drive from San Antonio, Texas to New Orleans, Louisiana.

This unique city deserves at least one week of the trip. Head south to St. Augustine, the oldest European settlement in the country, and check out the Castillo de San Marcos.
